The Inheritance game board is a combination of fun games integrated into one dynamic playing board and teaching tool.
The objective of the game is to arrive in the center of the board celebrating Christ as the Lamb of God.
In order to do this, we first play a “Monopoly” style trading game on the outer board where the purpose is to accumulate lamb chips, this is done by purchasing shekels with dollars, and then using those shekels to purchase lamb chips.
However, it is only when tithing on your income (paying 10%) that players are allowed to purchase lamb chips, which are tokens for caring for the poor.
Once you have achieved the targeted amount of lamb chips, you “ascend” to the inner board where the finalists compete in a quick “Parcheesi” style dice game of “roll and go”, a race to the center of the board.
The first player to arrive in the center wins.
Game Setup 1. A maximum of 7 players and a minimum of 3 may play.
2. Open the game board and place it on a flat surface.
3. There are 4 card decks entitled, Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge and Inheritance. Separate the decks, then shuffle each deck and place them face down on their marked positions on the board.
4. Each player begins on a Wisdom Pillar position on the board. To determine this, each player selects a plastic pillar playing piece. Notice; the Golden Wisdom Pillars on the board each have a different color at the base. The plastic pillar pieces are color coded to match the base of each pillar of Wisdom. The playing piece is then placed on the similarly color coded Wisdom pillar, and is the player’s starting position. Example; The playing piece colored burnt orange starts on the Wisdom pillar Counsel; or the playing piece colored purple starts on the pillar of Righteousness (see the board).
5. Select a treasurer (Job description: A fun loving or grouchy person who enjoys multitasking and banking).
6. The treasurer gives each player $1,480 as follows; Two (2) 500, 100, and 50 dollar bills; and five (5) 20, 10, 5 and 1 dollar bills.
7. There are 12 Birthright property deed cards, and there are 12 Blessings property deed cards. The treasurer separates and shuffles the Birthright property cards, dealing out one (1) free Birthright property card to each player.
8. To determine who plays first, each player rolls the pair of purple dice. The player with the highest number goes first, followed by the player to his right in a counter clockwise direction from the next pillar position. Example; Assume the first player to go is on the Righteousness pillar, the next player to go would be the player who selected the Judgment pillar, and so on.
9. For this game the target number of lamb chips is set at 20.
Game Play 1. To begin, the treasurer establishes the treasury rate for the round of play by rolling the golden dice. He/She then offers shekels for sale by ringing the game bell and announcing, “Shekels for sale, offerings for the poor, offerings for the poor.”
2. Now beginning with the first player, everyone has the option to purchase shekels. Each shekel cost $1 times the treasury rate, which is the number on the golden dice (1, 2, or 3).
3. The maximum number of shekels which may be purchased on each round of play is 2.
The only time a player may acquire shekels is at the start of every new round of play, when offered for sale by the treasurer. Example; Assume the treasury rate is 2. If a player decided to purchase 2 shekels, the cost would be $2 each, for a total of $4 paid to the treasurer.
4. After all the players have purchased shekels; the treasurer again rings the game bell announcing, “Go make disciples! Go make disciples!”
5. Beginning with the first player, each player in turn rolls the pair of purple dice and then moves his/her pillar token the total number of both dice in a counter clockwise direction on the board (see arrows on the outer board).
Note: After each player has played once, a new round of play begins. On each new round of play, the treasurer will always throw the golden dice to establish the treasury rate for the round of play, ring the bell, and announce, “Shekels for sale, offerings for the poor.” When purchases are finished, he/she then rings the bell a second time announcing, “Go make disciples,” to begin the round.
Going around the game board As players roll the dice and move around the board, they are required to read and follow the instructions on the board as follows; • The Inheritance deck is only used on the inner board, and no cards are selected from this deck when playing on the outer board. • A player who lands on a Wisdom pillar selects a card from the Wisdom deck and announces, “Wisdom.” The player then reads the Bible verse aloud, and follows the instructions on the card. • Players who land on either the Knowledge or Understanding square select a card from the appropriate deck, read the scripture aloud, and follow the instructions on the card. • A player who lands on the Virtue pillar position selects a card from any deck, except the Inheritance deck. As a player goes by the Virtue Pillar, he/she receives $200 from the treasury. Play instructions are written on the board, so remember to read the board position on which you land.
Buying and developing properties A player who lands on any un-owned property after the first round of play may purchase the property at the value printed on the board, multiplied by the treasury rate for the round of play. Example: A player lands on Reuben’s “Blessing” property, marked on the game board as costing $100. If the treasury rate for the round of play is 2 then the cost of the property for that round is $200.
A player must own both the Birthright and Blessing property for each tribe before developing rooms or inns on their property. This is called a set (see page 16 of the Rules). Each set has its own color scheme, and is marked on the board for easy identification. Three rooms must be built before an inn can be built. The costs of rooms or inns are affected by the treasury rate. These costs are printed on the deed cards, so calculations are not required. Example; A player owns the set of Reuben properties and wishes to build on Jericho (assume the treasury rate for the round is 2). To build one room will cost $140, which is paid to the treasurer, and the player then receives a room which is placed on the property (see Birthright property card).
Collecting fees and Tithing A player who owns property must announce, “Welcome,” in a clear voice when another player lands on his or her property in order to collect fees. Fees are then due the owner as follows;
If the property is undeveloped, gratuities are due (printed on the top of the deed card). The treasury rate does not apply and tithes are not paid on gratuities. This is a flat fee. Example; Reuben’s “Birthright” property Jericho has a gratuity fee of $5 (see property deed card).
If the property is developed, service fees are now due to the owner, who now also has to pay a tithe to the treasury. The service fees depend on the development and the treasury rate. Example; If Reuben’s “Birthright” property Jericho is developed with 2 rooms, and the treasury rate for the round of play is 3, then the fees due are $60 (see card).
Tithing The owner having collected $60 in service fees is now required to pay a tithe. A tithe is 10% of the service fee collected and is paid to the treasury. Example; In the above example, since $60 in services fees was collected, then the tithe which must be paid to the treasury is $6 (10% of $60).
We now come to the purpose of the outer board, acquiring lamb chips,
Once a player tithes, they may now purchase lamb chips from the treasury. The maximum number of lamb chips which can be purchased is equal to the tithe.
Lamb chips are always sold for 1 shekel each.
A player can only purchase lamb chips with shekels.
Example; A player has paid $6 in tithes; therefore, he/she may now purchase a maximum of 6 lamb chips, costing 6 shekels.
These steps are repeated until 50% of the players accumulate the number of lamb chips required to ascend.
The Ascension When a player accumulates 20 lamb chips, he/she then rings the bell announcing, “Inheritance,” and ascends to the inner four sided board.
The ascending player then moves to any unoccupied gate of any tribe on the inner board, according to any of the property deed cards held in his/her possession (if the player’s gate is taken, they may ascend to any gate of an unoccupied side)
Only one player is allowed on each quadrant or side of the inner board, so if a player ascends to the gate of Reuben, no other player may ascend to either the gate of Levi or Judah (see inner board). The ascended player equally divides all of his/her cash between the remainder of the players, and turns over all property to the treasury (making it available for purchase).
When a minimum of 50% or a majority of the players achieve 20 lamb chips and ascend, the treasurer then rings the bell announcing, “Inheritance, Inheritance,” and the game on the outer board is finished. Example: If 5 players began the game, then when 3 ascend the outer game is ended; or if 4 players began, when 2 ascend the outer game is ended.
The other players who did not achieve the 20 lamb chips are left behind, and play on the inner board continues without them.
The Inner board game set up The objective is to arrive on the center of the board where the Lamb is shown. This is accomplished by going around the board and then up your home ramp.
Inner board game play The golden dice is now used for moving around, so a player can only roll a 1, 2, or 3.
The first player to ascend begins play, and then the player on his or her left plays next in a clockwise rotation.
A player has to throw a 1 (one) to enter and begin play. Play begins on the Apostle position directly in front of the gates on each side; so for the gates of Reuben, Levi, and Judah, the starting position for all three gates is the Apostle Paul (see board).
Only the Inheritance deck is used on the inner board. After each player rolls the dice and move, they select a card from this deck, read the scripture aloud, and follow the instructions.
Example;A player on Reuben’s gate throws a 1(one) and enters by moving their playing piece to Paul. They then select a card from the Inheritance deck. If the instructions say, “Move forward two spaces,” the player would then proceed to Zelotes and then Bartholomew, following the arrows on the board and moving in a clockwise direction.
The home ramp and center of the board Players go around the board and when they arrive in front of their home gate, turn and go up the ramp, unless otherwise directed by a playing card. Movement then proceeds up the home ramp to the center. (Follow the arrows) Example; The home ramp positions for Reuben are John, Peter, and James (see board).
When a player is on their home ramp, they stop selecting cards from the Inheritance deck. They roll and move only. A player must roll the exact number to arrive in the center. The first player to arrive in the center wins the game.
The Winning player rings the bell and declares, “Worthy is the Lamb!! Worthy is the Lamb!!”
